Prime Minister Tony Blair has been warned by various groups not to commit the same mistake twice by going on war with Iran, saying that any such military action against Tehran would be "disastrous". Various charities, faith groups and unions have called on Blair to convince the American president not to go on war with Tehran and instead return to the talks table. The groups have also accused Blair to keeping the option of a military strike open as a negotiation tool. The report has warned that as in Iraq, thinking that the military action to be short would be disastrous for the coalition army. "Military action is not likely to be a short, sharp engagement but could have a profound effect on the region, with shock waves felt far beyond", the report said.
The latest report comes on the back of Bush getting increasingly angry at the Iranian defiance over its nuclear programme. Bush has also accused the Tehran government of support insurgency in Iraq which has led to huge number of losses in term of lives for the American army. The report, titled "Time to Talk: The Case for Diplomatic Solutions on Iran", was launched by former Labour minister Stephen Twigg, director of the Foreign Policy Centre. "The consequences of military action against Iran are not only unpalatable, they are unthinkable. Even according to the worst estimates, Iran is still years away from having a nuclear weapon. There is still time to talk and the Prime Minister must make sure our allies use it", Twigg said.
