Prime Minister Tony Blair has been warned by various groups not to commit the same mistake twice by going on war with Iran, saying that any such military action against Tehran would be "disastrous".

Various charities, faith groups and unions have called on Blair to convince the American president not to go on war with Tehran and instead return to the talks table. The groups have also accused Blair to keeping the option of a military strike open as a negotiation tool.

The report has warned that as in Iraq, thinking that the military action to be short would be disastrous for the coalition army. "Military action is not likely to be a short, sharp engagement but could have a profound effect on the region, with shock waves felt far beyond", the report said.

Torrential rains in Jakarta has left over 190,000 people homeless following massive floods in the Indonesian capital. Authorities report that at least 9 people have been killed in the floods, which occurred following three days of continuous rains leading to rivers swelling over their banks into the city.

One of the worst disasters in since the turn of the century, the city is now at its highest alert level. There has been no sign of respite from the rains with meteorologists forecasting that the rains will continue for another week at least. Officials fear yet more floods as the hilly regions in the south are experiencing heavy rains.

Heavy downpour has led to power cuts across the city and the citizens are stranded without any sign of communication or drinking water. Medical teams are using boats to reach those who are stranded deep in the waters and officials have called for over 7,000 extra police personnel to help the rescue teams.

An intelligence assessment done by the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) has warned the Bush administration that the ground situation in Iraq was deteriorating each day and the certain aspects of the conflict could be seen as an act of "civil war".

However the report added that though it has used the term "civil war", it does not describe the overall situation in the country. The government has said that the report vindicates its demand for extra troops to be sent to Iraq while the Democrats reiterated that the report shows that the government strategy is a complete failure.

The report also warned about the polarization of the two religious groups with violence increasing between the Sunnis and Shias, boosted by a weak government and a weaker security force. It added that unless measures are not taken quickly to control the violence, the condition would further deteriorate.
