Mumbai, Dec 3 (ANI): Indian Railways has reportedly released CCTV video footage of the gun battle between militants and security personnel at the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CST) here last evening.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have said that they were interrogating many possible suspects in the attacks, but were yet to arrest anybody other than the one militant whom they had captured alive.

Mumbai's Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor also scotched rumours that more than ten militants had been involved in the rampage on two luxury hotels, a railway station and a Jewish centre.

Senior investigators have said a former Pakistani Army officer led the training organised by the Lashker-e-Taiba militant group.

Gafoor said the ship, which carried the attackers to Mumbai, came from Karachi. On arrival, the militants fanned out in five taxis in which they planted explosives. Two of them went off, while the other three were defused.

"Terrorists had come from Karachi by ship. They hijacked a trawler and by that trawler they came very close to Mumbai shores. From there, they came to Cuffe Parade on rubber dinghy. And from that point they reached to five different places, after boarding taxis," said Gafoor.

He added that the gunmen and his fellow militants studied commando tactics for a year or more.

Gafoor declined to give more information as the probe was in the operational stage.

"We really cannot disclose much because the investigation is in its operational stage. Disclosing operational and strategic information would be harmful to the investigation," he said.

He further said Azam Amir Kasav, the only gunmen of the ten not killed by commandos, told investigators he is a Pakistani citizen from Punjab.

Gafoor declined to comment about the nationalities of the nine militants killed by commandos. He also ruled out any direct local support for the attack and said no hotel employee was involved.

He also mentioned that each of the militants was carrying one AK-47 assault rifle with 300 rounds, one pistol and several grenades.

To a question on the involvement of the U S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Britain's Scotland Yard sleuths in the probe, he clarified that the Mumbai Police was sharing information with these two set-ups and other world security agencies. (ANI)

New Delhi/Mumbai, Dec.3 (ANI): Even as the Congress party remains undecided about who will take over the reins of power in Maharashtra in the wake of incumbent Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh submitting his resignation twice to party president Sonia Gandhi, factions within the Congress have started lobbying for their respective candidates.

The Congress has for the time being deferred its decision on the Maharashtra leadership issue, as it is still trying to recover from the public backlash on its ineffectiveness in preventing last week's terror attack in Mumbai.

Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Deshmukh, Defence Minister A K Antony and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee met last night to discuss the issue.

There is an outside chance of Deshmukh staying on, but his opponents seem quite determined to ensure his exit from Mantralaya.

The frontrunners for the Chief Minister's job are Union minister Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil, Ashok Chavan, Narayan Rane and Prithviraj Chavan.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday after a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Antony, who looks after party affairs in Maharashtra, said:``The CM (Deshmukh) has again offered to resign and will abide by the decision of Sonia Gandhi.''

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is likely to decide who will be the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in the wake of the resignation of the incumbent R.R.Patil.

The NCP has said that an experienced hand will be needed at this critical time with elections are only three months away.

NCP sources said Patil's replacement would only be announced after the Congress decides on Deshmukh's fate.

The names of Chhagan Bhujbal and Dilip Walse Patil, however, are doing the rounds for the Deputy Chief Minister's post. (ANI)

Mumbai, Dec.2 (ANI): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil met a Shiv Sena delegation here on Tuesday morning.

The delegation, which was led by former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi and party president Uddhav Thackeray, spent 15 minutes with the President, and demanded imposition of President's Rule in the state of Maharashtra.

They told Patil that the state of law and order in Maharashtra was abysmal, and this had been proved by last week's attacks by terrorists.

They said that the people of Maharashtra had lost confidence in the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party coalition government headed by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Patil will meet Deshmukh and other officials today and enquire about the progress in the probe relating to the attacks.

The President will return to the national capital at 3.30 p.m. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
