MONDAY, January 4, (News Locale) - When 3 Idiots was initially launched everyone in trade circles and indeed among film buffs was aware that it was "inspired" by Chetan Bhagat's bestseller "Five Point Someone." The runaway success of the film starring Aamir Khan now has the author miffed as he feels he was not given due credit for the film.

The row has gotten ugly with media also involved after producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra told journos to "Shut up." However director Raj Kumar Hirani of the Munnabhai fame has sought to calm the issue saying that he fails to understand Bhagat's problem as the filmmakers purchased the rights to the book in an above board manner.

Bhagat feels that 70 percent of the film is based on his book and not 5 percent as the makers claim. Hirani begs to differ, saying that they had paid for the rights and could use 100 percent of the book if they desired. He added that Bhagat had flouted the contract he signed with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and may now face legal action for defaming the makers.

In other news related to Chetan Bhagat, Aamir Khan has also clarified on the issue of the Bhagat controversy on his blog.  "I am very keen to present my side of the story, why I said what, why I feel what I feel, and what is the difference between a book and a screenplay, what I feel about ethics of this issue, fair play, morality etc. The whole gamut. I would also like to present some very interesting evidence," he wrote.

At this moment Aamir said he wanted to maintain a distance from the controversy and remain unemotional, which was not possible now.

Meanwhile the film is doing brisk business in India and abroad and has already collected Rs 175 crore in a few days since its release on Christmas.
