SUNDAY, January 18, (News Locale) - There was high drama at the Star Screen Awards on Wednesday night after the winner of the Most Popular Actor award refused to accept the accolades. Akshay Kumar, who won the award for his Singh is Kinng, said he did not deserve the award.
Akshay says Aamir Khan actually deserves the award for his mind-blowing performance in Ghajini. The popular actor called Akki by his fans appears to have been smitten by Aamir's sizzling performance in Ghajini.
Singh is Kinng raked in the moolah estimated to be about Rs 125 crore thanks mainly to Akshay's humane portrayal of Happy Singh. All the accolades, deservedly, went to him for the success of the film, which also had Katrina Kaif as the lead actress.
However Ghajini, which released on December 25, outranked Singh is Kinng, raking in Rs 200 crore within 2 weeks of its release. Maybe the mind-boggling numbers have caused Akshay to refuse the Star Screen Award for the Most Popular Actor.
Ghajini, which also introduces South star Asin to Bollywood, has eased the gloom in the Hindi film industry in the wake of the recent economic crisis.
Nevertheless it takes a lot of humility to refuse awards, which are some of the most sought after trophies in the film industry. Aamir Khan famously does not attend awards functions.
By requesting Aamir to accept this award, Akshay has truly proved that he is indeed the Kinng!
