SATURDAY, June 7, (News Locale) - Contrary to popular perception, men do not need to go in for expensive toiletries to attract women. A new study finds that the armpit odor does just as well.

Researchers at Monell Chemical Senses Centre in Philadelphia said it was the presence of complex pheromones in the underarm sweat that attracted a women and even lets user decide if the man is the one for her.

These pheromones are odorless and have a relaxing effect on women. They are also responsible for the release of luteinizing hormone, which plays an important role in regulating menstruation in women. Health24.com reports that in the study female test volunteers were exposed to men's underarm sweat for about six hours and were increasingly relaxed because of the effect of these pheromones.

The chemicals in the underarm sweat may also discourage close relatives from getting attracted to each other because of the presence of part of the human genome called the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). It is speculated that women can infer when a man's MHC is different from their own.

Researchers also speculate that these pheromones could trigger the search for newer fertility drugs. Future men's fragrances can contain pheromones that can allow them to attract any women, the researchers added.

Underarm odor is generally frowned upon in the society. I is touted as the biggest turn off for women and hence men have turned to expensive deodorants and fragrances to combat the same. However as the above study suggests, your natural fragrance may be more than enough to do the trick!
