FRIDAY, June 19, (News Locale) - Billed as the most powerful iPhone yet. Apple's iPhone 3G S went on sale today in eight countries across the world, debuting in the United States at 7 A.M. As expected Apple got a frenzied response with most stores being sold out within the hour.
The iPhone 3G S was introduced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8 and has excited consumers after Apple touted it as the fastest device to come out of its stables. In fact the "S" in the device stands for 'Speed,' clearly indicating the segment being targeted by the Cupertino, Calif-based company.
"The first thing you’ll notice about iPhone 3G S is how quickly you can launch applications. Web pages render in a fraction of the time, and you can view email attachments faster," Apple says on its website.
The iPhone 3G S has got a 3-megapixel camera with a built-in autofocus that lets consumers take still as well as moving pictures of great quality. An all-new Landscape keyboard allows users to access a bigger keyboard in Mail, Messages, Notes, and Safari. The device runs on OS 3.0 and has a longer battery life than its predecessor, the iPhone 3G.
The device also includes a built-in digital compass that can be used as a direction finder. Apple says it also automatically reorients maps to match the direction you are facing. Apple has also included a slew of features for the visually or the hearing impaired. These include VoiceOver screen reader, a Zoom feature, White on Black display options and Mono Audio.
The phone also has a Cut, Copy & Paste application to allow users to easily transfer data to documents and also paste images and content from the web. Messaging is made easier with the availability of text, video, photos and audio features. Corporate users can store voice memos and a voice control app allows you to adjust the sound automatically when speaking or listening to music. Finally the built-in Nike + iPod support allows you to begin your workout wherever and whenever you please.
Apple has also introduced a coating that repels fingerprints in this device. The iPhone 3G S is available for $199 for a 16 GB version and $299 for a 32 GB version. A new two-year AT&T rate plan is sold separately. Analysts expect Apple to sell over 500,000 devices over this weekend.
