WEDNESDAY, February 3, (News Locale) - Maruti has decided to launch its Maruti Cervo small car in India in May or June this year. With small cars doing very well in rural areas and the auto industry receiving a huge boost in terms of sales at the start of the year, this may just be a bumper year for Maruti as the price for Maruti Cervo is being suggested in the range of Rs 150,000 - Rs 200,000
While the price is just above Tata Nano, consumers may not bother about it, if Maruti Cervo gives them a class performance. Furthermore, Maruti Cervo may be the ideal successor to the iconic Maruti 800.
The Cervo is a five-door hatchback model and has a 0.7L, 660cc petrol engine. Maruti claims this engine can produce 60bhp power. The main reason analysts expect Cervo to do well is because consumers will want to comply with the mandatory fuel-efficiency norms that are due to come into effect in 2011.
The Indian government is set to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, which will set energy efficiency norms, which will be similar to the Star ratings introduced by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency for electrical appliances.
The Maruti Suzuki Cervo will comply with these norms and in an affordable price range as well.
