THURSDAY, June 25, (News Locale) - With the massive launch of the iPhone 3G S, Finnish giant Nokia Inc is looking to consolidate its own position in the market and towards this end has announced the launch of Nokia N86. The new dual-slide design handset will cost Rs 27,359 in India.

The Nokia N86 promises to give the iPhone a run for its money with its stunning features that include Carl Zeiss optics with triband 3G HSDPA/HSUPA and a 2.6-inch OLED display running at 240 x 320 QVGA resolution. The N86 boasts of 8GB of built-in memory that can be ramped up using microSD cards.

The Nokia N86 also happens to be the first handset to have an eight megapixel camera. Users can also share location tagged pictures or videos online through the N86, which makes it an attractive proposition for college users.

Other features include S60 3rd Edition and the FP2. It also has WiFi b/g, A-GPS, a digital compass and accelerometer. Nokia Maps 3.0 with voice-guided driving directions has also been incorporated into the device. The Ovi online suite is pre-loaded onto the device.

The Nokia N86 8MP also has 17 pre-loaded N-Gage games out of which customers can choose one license game for free, according to Jasmeet Gandhi, Nokia India Head Devices and Services Marketing. The N86 also has dedicated gaming and music keys and can play 30 hours of music on one charge only.

Nokia is competing with Apple's iPhone, Palm's Pre and HTC's Diamond for supremacy in the smartphone market. Nokia has launched the N97 and the N86 to stay ahead of the competition, especially the iPhone. Only time will tell if Nokia has what it takes to beat the iPhone at its own game.
