SUNDAY, January 18, (News Locale) - Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif continued to court trouble after he was detained at the Delhi Airport for lack of proper documents. PTI reports that the player, who appears for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, was detained by immigration authorities at the Delhi airport for having "insufficient documents".
However the speedster, who has been suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was later released. Asif is in Delhi to sort out financial issues with the Daredevils. He was brought by the franchise for $650,000 on a three-year contract, but his future is unclear after he was banned as he tested positive for a steroid in last year's edition of the 20-20 IPL tournament.
The Pakistan board has not given Asif a central contract and has suspended him from all forms of cricket. Asif was also held in Dubai for possession of a banned substance believed to be opium. He was however sent back to Pakistan after 198 days.
His current visit to Delhi has to do with his outstanding payments from last year. However Asif's case may be weakened after the hearing of the IPL tribunal, which will hear his appeal on January 24.
