SUNDAY, April 13, (News Locale) - The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) admitted that its computer network has faced a recent attack by suspected Chinese hackers, but said that it has always been under such threat from hackers from across the world.

The attack reportedly took place last month and though the government was unable to catch the hackers, IP addresses left behind show them to be Chinese. However the government has decided to downplay the incident, stating that hackers from Europe and other parts of the world often try to hack into the system but with no success. The MEA added that no sensitive data has been stolen in the latest attempt.

Additional security systems will be set up to prevent any further attacks on the network which carry sensitive information regarding the regular exchanges that takes place between the missions in the field and the headquarters.

While no information has been found whether the hackers were alone or working for the government, this is not the first time that a security agency has had to ward off attacks from Chinese hackers.

Last year the Pentagon had accused the Chinese government of encouraging hackers after it found that a group of hackers had penetrated into the highly sensitive and guarded computer system of defense secretary Robert Gates.
